Explanation of the Lottery - Shared

Explanation of the Lottery

Girls on the Run Mid State PA uses a lottery-based online registration to ensure fair and equal access to all families. Parents/Guardians are able to sign their girl up online or using the paper application provided by their school.

All participants who register online receive an email confirming their "lottery status" until the lottery is run. On the lottery date (check "Overview" above for date) the random, computer-generated lottery takes place and you will receive an updated confirmation email with your "selected" or "wait list" status. At this time, payment is completed for selected-status participants only.

After the lottery, registration reopens on a first-come, first-served basis only at teams with available space, until the team is full or until registration closes (prior to the 4th practice).

If your girl is SELECTED in the lottery:
You will receive an email on the day of the lottery that your girl has been selected and your credit card will be charged.

If your girl is NOT SELECTED in the lottery:
You will receive an email that your girl has been placed on the waiting list, and your credit card will not be charged, unless you move from the waiting list to the registered list.

Registration Fees

Building confidence and setting young girls down the path of a healthy lifestyle is PRICELESS! However, there are real costs associated with operating a non-profit organization and delivering the Girls on the Run program to approximately 2500+ girls each year. Registration is offered on a sliding scale from $175 down to $10 based on household income and family circumstances. Scholarships are availalbe to ALL families. The fee should NOT deter families from registering their girl(s).

The GOTR program includes:

  • 16 ninety-minute sessions conducted by trained GOTR volunteer coaches
  • Evidence-based curriculum and lesson materials
  • A healthy snack at each session
  • Official GOTR T-shirt and water bottle
  • 5K Registration fee
  • 5K Medal
  • Chip Timing
  • Post 5K celebration
Financial Assistance

At Girls on the Run we want to ensure our program is accessible and inclusive of all girls. The financial assistance process is included in the online and paper registration to make it easy! Simply answer the financial assistance questions during registration, and the fee will adjust accordingly. Financial assistance is based on household income, free and reduced lunch and current financial needs. Documentation is not required. Please use our sliding scale below as a guideline.  Girls on the Run will never turn away a girl from participating due to financial reasons.

My girl isn't a big runner; is this program for her? OR My girl is already a skilled runner. Is this program for her?

Yes! We are much more than a running program, and every participant can benefit from the experience of building confidence through accomplishment while participating in our rich, curriculum-based, age-appropriate, interactive lessons. Expect lots of games, crafts, building, storytelling, talking, laughing and processing in addition to running at each practice. And know that when we say run, we mean run, walk, skip, roll or push, just as long as you are moving foward!

Who can participate?

Camp GOTR is for girls entering 3rd-5th grades in 2023 and is intended to draw participants from many areas.

How does Camp GOTR compare to regular Girls on the Run?

Camp GOTR is an intensive experience - all the fun and impact of a 10-week, 20-lesson program, squished into one week during the summer! Girls who have participated in GOTR before and girls who are brand new to Girls on the Run will enjoy the Camp GOTR activities, games and themes. Up to 45 girls can participate in one Camp GOTR location, though they’ll split into small groups of 10-15 for many activities.

When does the 10-week season begin?

Look under "Overview" for the program start times and 5K dates. More information will be shared by the GOTR staff and by your girl's coaches once the season begins.

Do girls need to attend both days each week in order to register?

Yes! Since most of our teams fill up quickly, if your girl will be unable to attend all the sessions, please save room for a girl who can, and consider joining us in a future season when she can enjoy the entire program.

Is there a way for me to sponsor a participant for a season?

Yes! As a mission-driven 501(c)3, Girls on the Run relies on generous donors grants in order to provide more than $100,000 in program scholarships for families in need. Click here to sponsor a participant this season.
